I’m on a chat right now, and a question came up about what hosting package is good for Internet Marketers – and for me, it comes down to 1 question:

1) Do you NEED windows for any of your sites? (IE – are you using any pages that end in .asp or .aspx?)

If the answer is yes, you have .asp or .aspx pages for your site, then get a windows package. If the answer is no, then GET A LINUX PACKAGE!

Why? Because 99% of the scripts you’ll want to install for Internet Marketing sites are written in PHP, and you don’t need windows for PHP. Linux packages are generally cheaper (sometimes a lot cheaper) and more readily available.

Now, when you decide which type of server to get, you’re going to want to get a package that will allow you to host MULTIPLE or UNLIMITED domains. Why? Because even if you say “I only have one domain” you’ll probably end up with more than one, and you’re not going to want to buy package after package to host each site. Many hosting companies will offer a multiple or unlimited package for slightly more than the 1 domain package. It’s WELL worth it to pay the extra few bucks to get an unlimited domain package.

Bandwidth and Disk Space – These don’t really matter, UNLESS you’re buying from a hosting company that isn’t giving you over 100GB of either. Host Gator, for instance, offers 350gb of disk space and 3,000gb (3 Terabytes) of bandwidth on their SINGLE DOMAIN plan! The unlimited domain plan has even more!

Unless you’re running a HUGE site, or serving tons of videos, you’re not going to ever come close to those limits. And if you’re running a HUGE site like that, you should be making enough money to pay for a better hosting package

My Recommendation

So, my recommendation is to go to Host Gator and sign up for their Baby plan. It’s only about $10/month, and it lets you host an unlimited amount of sites per month. (Remember: Unlimited sites is the key!)
