Can You Trust the Business World Online?

July 18th, 2009 by Steve

George Macdonald is noted for saying, “To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved.” Do you trust the business world online?

There are plenty of reasons why you should not trust the business world online. In fact, I have three hundreds emails in my in box right now that tell me why I shouldn’t trust it. I have emails that say I can get a bigger penis, a better income, brighter teeth, a smaller waistline, and even a way to make my dog use the indoor toilet!

I see ads online that tell me about how I can earn hundreds of dollars while I sleep, thousands of dollars just by sending emails, or get a new Ipod just by filling in a few surveys. We all know it isn’t true. Read the rest of this entry »

Is There Such a Thing as a Simple Online Business?

July 16th, 2009 by Steve

“Keep it simple, stupid,” is a famous saying and one that applies even to online businesses. The simpler your business, the more apt you will be to succeed. There are plenty of businesses out there that you can devote your time to, but if they are complicated and time-consuming, you will not succeed. The key really is to find a simple online business that brings in profits, that you enjoy, and that you will keep on working for years to come.

Many online marketing programs (or schemes!) involve mass spamming, deceptive advertising, and worthless products. You don’t want to be involved in something like that for many reasons. First of all, they don’t last – people catch on to the scam and you will be out of business. Spamming and deceptive advertising takes a lot of time and effort and you could put yourself or your email account at risk. And, remember that “what goes around comes around,” meaning that if you scam someone, sooner or later someone will scam you. Read the rest of this entry »

July 15th, 2009 by Steve

Having an online business can take up an awful lot of time. Developing your product, marketing it, finding your customers, managing fulfillment, and cashing all those checks can be a full-time job. Who has the time to step back and develop an online business study? Remember though, as Harvey Mackay once said, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail,” and nowhere is this more apt than in the world of online business.

Businesses that operate in the bricks and mortar world usually have a business plan before the first product is ever put on the shelf. Because these businesses usually require investment from outside sources, the people putting up the money want to make sure that the business owner knows what he or she is doing. In the online world, few people have a business plan and fewer ever re-evaluate their business over time. It is a valuable exercise and one that should be done by every online business owner.
