Can an Online Business Start Up Succeed in This Economy?

So you are sitting in your dead-end job, killing time by looking for business opportunities online. Who among us has not done the same thing? Wait until the boss is away and start browsing for something to get you out of that office and away from your desk. An online business start up may be just what you are looking for, but before you hand in your notice, make sure you know what you are doing!
Plenty of people have left their jobs, only to find out that their online business start up did not start up at all! The promise of huge, steady income never came through, and hours of hard work went to waste. More often than not, this is what happens with the usual online business start up. Sad, but true. So, be sure you understand what you are getting yourself into.
- Just because a business is operated online does not mean that it is not as time-consuming as a regular, real world business. It takes time and energy, hard work and creativity. And, if you aren’t comfortable sitting at a desk for hours on end, it might not be for you.
- Before you quit your job, develop a plan. You need to know what you are selling, who you are selling to, at what price, who your competition is, and what you are going to do if it all falls to pieces. Without these pieces of information in place, you are asking for trouble.
- Talk to other people about your plan before you decide to jump. Even if you are just talking to someone with no business experience, they may see a flaw in your plan that you don’t see.
Starting a business is perhaps the hardest thing you will ever do in your life. Be sure to expect this before you walk away from that full-time job!
